Here at Matumi Fresh, there are lots of ways in which we strive to give back. Many of them involve food which, despite being a wonderful way to assist in fulfilling an enormous need, does feel somewhat 'easy' for foodies like us! This year, we challenged ourselves to take on something different, in addition to our 'usual' donations.
Cue...Santa's Shoebox Project.
“Each year the Santa Shoebox Project collects and distributes personalised gifts of essential items and treats for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. In 15 years, Santa's Shoeboxes have been distributed to 1 017 741 children."
We had a lot of fun getting everyone involved. There is something special about putting together a gift addressed to someone personally. When pledging a box on the Santa's Shoebox website, the list of recipients is available with details such as names, ages and sizes so that pledgers can shop accordingly, in line with a list of essential items which need to be included in each box. Drop offs are located centrally with a specified date and time and then off the boxes go, to make little hearts happy in time for Christmas!
Thank you, Santa's Shoebox, for all that your organisation does for our youth. We were so pleased to make a small contribution to your cause this year, and we are challenging ourselves to up our game even more for next!
